Our first tasting when we arrived in California was at Paraduxx. Located in Napa, this winery sits on a beautiful property with a well appointed tasting room.
The outdoor tasting area is sunny and gorgeous. Weather permitting, a formal tasting on the terrace is the way to go.
Our wine tasting was delicious. Paraduxx wines are predominately Cabernet/Zinfandel blends. My favorite, contrary to popular opinion, is the Z Blend. It's a fruity, light-medium bodied red blend that is majority Zinfandel. The Z Blend is a refreshing change of pace from the endless parade of heavy cabs found in Napa.
Our formal tasting and tour was given by John (Jean?). He is extremely friendly, passionate, and knowledgable. We loved chatting with him and he made our visit very enjoyable. I would recommend asking for him if you stop in for a taste.
Paraduxx has a beautiful wine making facility. Their barrel room was clean and cool. John told us Paraduxx wines are aged as separate varietals for one year and then aged for another 6 months as blends. They use both American and French oak barrels in their aging process.
Our visit to Paraduxx was so much fun! If you're in Napa, I encourage you to stop in and try their lovely collection of wines.
Can you believe Thanksgiving is TOMORROW? I still have tons to do to get ready for our family dinner, but I CANNOT WAIT to eat a ton of food, take lots of naps, and indulge in great wine.
Speaking of tasty juice, here are my picks for 5 Wines to Serve on Thanksgiving:
It has come to my attention that low calorie cocktails are becoming a thing. I came across Slim Lizzy's at the Go Blog Social pop-up earlier this month. These canned cocktails are perfect for mixing (hello champagne!) and they offer big flavor without all the guilt of high calorie beverages. Seems like a win to me. Here's the recipe for one of their new Fall drinks:
It's Fall Beer season and cold weather swept Chicago with a vengence last weekend. We decided this was the perfect time to host a mini-Oktoberfest of sorts, thus our 1st Annual Seasonal Beer Taste Off was born.
Lakeshore Beverage is a Chicago Distributor of craft breweries and cideries from around the world. They host fun and unique events within their space and they work with writers on educational pieces about beer and the industry. It's a vast topic and there's always more to learn!
During a long tasting day, we stopped into Alexander Valley Vineyards because we've heard great things about their wine. The Vineyard has a beautiful wine cave on the property, which was unfortunately closed when we arrived.
We chose to go to the Silver Oak location in Geyserville because we guessed it would be less hectic than their Napa Valley tasting room, and we were right. The Geyserville location is quiet, stately, and relaxed. They spent a lot of time giving us background on their wines and we enjoyed sharing their passion for Cabernet Sauvignon.
